“I started going to LOA four months ago – attending the 6 a.m. classes. If you had told me that I would be attending a gym, let alone getting up at 5:15 a.m., and traveling 20 minutes to get there, five days a week, I would have told you that you were nuts.Well here I am and loving what LOA has done for me. I just turned 50 and like many of us women of this age, started to panic when I saw what gravity was doing to my body – YIKES! So I decided to finally do something about it. Since joining LOA I have lost 17 lbs (15 more to go) and down two pants sizes. I feel more energetic, more powerful physically and mentally. The staff and the members of LOA are so supportive of one another. It doesn’t matter if you’re a size 6 or size 26, or if your age is18 or 88, you will feel welcomed the minute you walk in the LOA door. The staff will encourage you to work at your comfort zone no matter what level of physical fitness you are at. The facility is so clean with fresh flowers at the front desk everyday.
I recommend LOA to every woman – start taking charge of your body and your well-being now.”

“Lady of America has been a positive force for me. I stated with one strength training class per week and have expanded to classes Monday through Friday, including both cardio and strength.
The 6 a.m. classes energize me and set a positive tone for the day. Even when I lost my job and no longer needed to be out and about so early in the day, I maintained the 6 a.m. classes as they provided a routine to start my day. When I get home, I am able to start right into the activities to support my job search.
My LOA friends have been very supportive of my transition and provide great encouragement.”

“I have been a member of LOA since it opened here in Keene and as a result, LOA has become a great part of my daily routine. Over the years, I have participated in many of the programs LOA has had to offer. My favorites are the cardio machines and yoga right now, but that will change because there are so many options, It is easy to shake up my routine. I am 53 years old and my weight loss is wonderful but what‘s more important to me is my strength, balance, flexibility and endurance. I’ve seen too many women lose one or all of these as they age, turning into “I can’t “women. I want to remain an “I can” woman and LOA provides the means to achieve this in a friendly, relaxed, challenging atmosphere. I can’t imagine a week without going to LOA. It has truly become a part of my life!”

“I have been a happy and loyal member of the LOA for 2 ½ years. Initially I was looking for a gym that was convenient, affordable, and where as a middle aged woman – I could feel comfortable. In addition to finding those qualities, I found a gym that was extremely clean and friendly. The staff set a tone of making every woman, whatever age, shape, size or ability feel welcome. This attitude is carried then by the members as well. There are enough choices and well-maintained machines that I always leave more content than I arrived and I’ve been able to get stronger and keep my sense of health as well.
The most startling experience for me, however, happened about 6 months after I joined the gym. I experienced a physical trauma that left me quite frightened. In my therapy to integrate this trauma my therapist told me to think of a safe place. I was struggling. Even with her encouragement, I could not come up with a safe place in reality or fantasy. Suddenly I thought “Lady of America!” and I was flooded with relief.
My trauma is long ago integrated and the world feels safe again. But I still love Lady of America!”

“About a year ago I had come back from a long weekend of XC skiing. I had a good time but found myself in the way back of the group. I was tired, needed frequent rests and generally did not perform the way I wanted to. I had spoken earlier to a friend of mine at the church I attend and she had mentioned she went to Lady of America. I had never heard of the place but decided I needed to do something, and I was willing to check it out. I did, signed up and attended regularly. My first test was a fundraiser hike up Mt. Washington in July, 2008. My daughter and granddaughter came with me. It was one of those rare days when you could actually see the mountains around you. The hike was uneventful. I did not tire until about 200ft from the top. I was elated. Exercise works if you keep up with it.
Second test was a couple weeks ago. First there was three days of downhill skiing. Not a sore muscle anywhere. Then XC skiing again in the Maine Wilderness, skiing between lodges and with a small pack, it was fun. Herringboning up the hills was nothing. I could not believe the change from a year ago. I am happy and know from prior knowledge, that as we age stamina and strength go down but it does not have to plummet. We can slow down the process and continue to enjoy our favorite sports and hobbies.
I would be remiss if I also did not tell you that I consider myself very fortunate. Many people my age and younger are not well, have disabilities that prevent them from leading a full life. The Lord has been good to me.”
